Be reasonable

Before you remodel your home or throw out half your belongings, press pause for a moment.

Gurus like Marie Kondo may advise you to go through your home, room-by-room, dump all your belonging in one big pile and then sort it through the lens of "Does it spark joy?" If not, toss it.

Use common sense with definitions and heuristics like these. "Does it generate some sort of utility?" Maybe keep it then.

  • Where are you right now?
  • Do you rent or buy?
  • Are you 'mobile' (ready to move) and do you want to be?
  • Are you 'materially sufficient'?
  • Do you have what you need?
  • Is your life cluttered?
  • Do you have too much stuff? How much?

👊 Challenges for next year

  • Do a 'KonMari' purge of your home
  • Remove all non-essentials from your life
  • Consider the "buy vs rent" question (in terms of which one makes more sense to you - and not what conventional wisdom dictates)
